Once you've decided that breast augmentation may be a great choice for you, you'll meet with Dr. Buford for a private consultation at his plastic surgery practice, BEAUTY by BUFORD in Lone Tree, CO. This is the perfect time for you to discuss your concerns, learn more about your options, and even try some breast implants on for size.
Breast implant considerations you'll discuss with Dr. Buford:
Considering your personal goals and unique anatomy, Dr. Buford will use his many years of experience and expert training to help you choose the best breast augmentation options to meet your goals. He will recommend the perfect type and size of breast implants for you and design a surgical plan that will give you results you'll love.
Although the breast augmentation procedure is relatively straightforward, most of the planning occurs outside of the operating room. Experienced breast surgeons such as Dr. Buford understand that the more prepared you are going into the procedure, the more predictable the results.
The information gained during your initial consultation with Dr. Buford is critical to achieving this. Be honest with him and his staff about your expectations and what you would like to accomplish.
Sometimes, patients benefit most from combined procedures or may see better results from a different procedure. Your consultation is the perfect time for Dr. Buford to guide you in the right direction.
Once you have decided to move forward, a preoperative appointment will be scheduled. During this appointment, Dr. Buford will discuss your surgery, associated risks, and post-op aftercare in depth. Final implant sizing will be decided and any additional questions you have will be answered. Your "before" photos will also be taken at this time.
Before you meet with Dr. Buford for your consultation, consider filling out our breast self-assessment. By sharing how you see yourself, we can best evaluate your aesthetic goals and determine an appropriate treatment plan for you.
On your day of surgery, you'll arrive an hour before your procedure and meet with Dr. Buford, the anesthesiologist, and the nursing staff to review the final paperwork and what to expect from your anesthesia care and surgery.
Dr. Buford will take final measurements and make markings to guide your surgery. Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist and takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete. Per your discussion during the consultation, Dr. Buford will begin by making incisions either in the natural fold under your breast (inframammary), around your areola (peri-areolar), or in the armpit (transaxillary).
Through these incisions, he will numb the breasts for increased comfort, in addition to washing the pocket with triple antibiotic solutions to reduce the risk of complications. He will then create the breast pocket and precisely place your breast implants either over (subglanduar) or under the pectoral muscle (submuscular). If you've chosen saline implants, they will be filled to size once inserted.
Once your implants have been properly placed in the breast pocket, an intercostal nerve block will be performed to help you heal as comfortably as possible. Dr. Buford will then suture and dress the incisions. You'll be able to return home soon after surgery, though you will need a designated driver and someone to assist you for the rest of the day as you recover from anesthesia.
"...I picked a range of implant sizes with Dr. Buford before the procedure (425 cc - 510 cc), knowing that he picks a size during the surgery that looks best with your body. He ended up going with 520 cc implants and I'm so happy he did. A month after the procedure, I get compliments from the girls at work all the time! The whole process has been great, and I couldn't be happier with the results."—Actual Patient of Dr. Buford
To help get you back on your feet as quickly as possible, Dr. Buford offers a unique approach to post-operative pain control: the Intercostal Nerve Block. This revolutionary technique helps a majority of his breast augmentation patients get off of narcotic pain medications within a day or two after surgery.
While you are still asleep, a small amount of local anesthetic will be injected into the side of your chest to effectively block pain fibers from your breasts to your brain for around 8 hours, making a dramatic difference in your need for pain meds after surgery. Because of this block and Dr. Buford's specific breast augmentation technique, a majority of his patients are back to work within 24-48 hours following their procedure.
Breast augmentation can treat a variety of concerns, including:
For women who experience sagging breasts, breast augmentation can be combined with a breast lift to achieve both enhanced volume and a lifted appearance.
Breast augmentation can provide both aesthetic and emotional benefits, creating a balanced, feminine silhouette that aligns with your unique vision. This customizable procedure allows you to choose the size, shape, and type of implant to achieve a result that complements your natural proportions and individual style. With today’s advanced techniques and implant options, breast augmentation provides beautiful, long-lasting results, helping you feel more confident and comfortable in your appearance for years to come. Patients often express feeling more confident in their appearance and more comfortable in clothing after undergoing breast augmentation surgery.

You may be a good candidate for breast augmentation if:
Having realistic expectations and discussing your goals with Dr. Buford during your consultation is important. In some cases, Dr. Buford may recommend a breast lift or alternative procedures to meet your aesthetic needs better.
After surgery, Dr. Buford will provide you with discharge instructions and prescribe pain medication to help manage your discomfort, but many patients are able to switch to an over-the-counter pain reliever within just a few days. If you have an office job, you will likely be able to return to work within three days or so, though it's important to take it easy and avoid strenuous activity. You will return for follow-up appointments after three weeks, three months, six months, and one year.
During the first few months of healing, we encourage our patients to perform breast implant massage at least 10x per day to allow the implants to settle as quickly as possible. This procedure will be discussed at your pre-operative visit and during your first few appointments.
Some patients settle more quickly than others, so there is variability as to when you will see your final results. However, most patients are very pleased with the appearance of their breasts rather quickly and are only disappointed that they didn’t seek breast augmentation earlier!
Breast Augmentation Results
The results of your breast augmentation will be noticeable almost immediately, but it may take several months for your final outcome to be visible as your body heals. The implants will provide long-lasting results, but following Dr. Buford’s post-surgical care recommendations is important to ensure the best outcome. Patients report increased satisfaction with their appearance, improved self-esteem, and a more balanced, feminine figure.
We offer both silicone and saline breast implants. Silicone gel implants provide a natural feel and are popular for their soft texture, while saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution and allow for flexible sizing.
During your consultation, Dr. Buford will discuss your goals and perform a detailed assessment of your anatomy. You will also have the opportunity to try on different implant sizes to see what best fits your desired look.
Yes, silicone breast implants are FDA-approved and widely used in breast augmentation procedures. Dr. Buford will ensure you’re fully informed about all your options to help you make the best decision for your body.
Most patients can still breastfeed after breast augmentation, but it’s important to discuss this with Dr. Buford if you plan to have children in the future, as certain incision techniques may impact milk production.
Breast implants are designed to be long-lasting but may not last a lifetime. Depending on personal factors and preferences, some patients may require revision surgery after 10-20 years.
Breast implant illness (BII) refers to a range of symptoms some women experience, which they attribute to their implants. Dr. Buford can discuss this during your consultation to address your concerns.
Breast augmentation can be combined with other procedures, such as a breast lift or fat transfer, for a more comprehensive result.
Most patients can return to work within a few days, but strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Full recovery can take up to a few months as the implants settle into place.
